The PADI Open Water Diver course leads to full entry-level diver certification. Upon completion of this course you are certified to dive around the world to a depth of 60 ft. Open Water Diver certification is a pre-requisite for advanced courses such as the Advanced Open Water Diver, Night Diver and Underwater Photographer. At Octopus Diving, we teach all classes with a maximum of 2 students per instructor to guarantee personal attention and help each student learn at their own speed.
For this course you will need to be comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills. For all courses you will need to complete a PADI Medical Statement and may be asked to consult a physician to receive a medical clearance prior to diving. If you have any medical issues or concerns, please contact us in advance.
The course consists of three parts: knowledge development, confined water session, and open water (ocean) dives. There are 5 knowledge development and 5 confined water modules followed by 4 ocean dives. To minimize time spent in training during your vacation, it’s an option to do the knowledge development and confined water portions of the course at home, with your local dive center. If you choose this option, you will need to obtain a universal referral from your local dive center.
Another option is to complete the knowledge development portion of the Open Water Diver course on-line before your arrival in St. Martin. The cost of the Open Water Diver course using the eLearning option is $420. This includes doing the confined water and open water portions of the course with us but does not include the cost of eLearning. You can sign up for eLearning here.
You will need to enter our shop number so we can access your student records: Octopus Diving, PADI #799210.
Regardless of the learning options you choose, upon successful completion of the course, you will be a certified PADI Open Water Diver. This means you can join us on any of our scheduled dives or enroll in Advanced levels of training.
